Yankees Rumors: Yankees Looking For Starting Pitching?

This has been one of the more active times right before a season in recent memory. A lot of surprising cuts. A lot of contract extensions being reached. For the New York Yankees, they’ve already DFA’d Austin Romine. They have 10 days to trade him or risk losing him for nothing. One thing they are looking for is starting pitching.

#Yankees among clubs looking for rotation depth, a pitcher who could go to Triple A and be ready if needed. Have Mitchell and Whitley…

…but will not rush Severino. Wandy fits profile, but other teams may provide better opportunity. #Rays, #Rangers, #Phillies looking.

The Wandy that’s being talked about is lefty Wandy Rodriguez, who was cut by the Braves a couple of days ago. The 36 year old won two games in six starts and had a 3,13 ERA. He pitched 23 innings, gave up 22 hits, but struck out 23 batters. It wouldn’t shock me at all to see them acquire a pitcher in the next day or two for some AAA depth.
Jhoulys Chacin is out there. Barry Enright was just released by the Dodgers. Alex White was DFA’d by the Astros. There could be other names we don’t know about that they kick the tires on. The Yankees wanted to keep Scott Baker, but he signed with the Dodgers.
It would stand to reason that the Yankees are looking to use Romine as a piece to acquire extra pitching. With the lack of catching available, it’s certainly possible. The Yankees used his spot to purchase the contact of the newly-acquired Gregorio Petit.
Look for the Yankees to make some sort of move to add another arm, maybe within the first few days of the season.
We have baseball that counts tomorrow. How awesome is that?
