Today was the last game at George M. Steinbrenner Field before the team heads up north to play one more exhibition game in Washington before getting the 2015 season underway. Today, the Yankees squared off against the Washington Nationals. Unfortunately, it was Washington early and Washington late, as the Nationals wen’t on to win by the final score of 8-2. The Yankees record fell to 16-16 this spring.

In CC Sabathia‘s last start of spring he struggled in the first inning, but was able to finish strong. In the first inning Sabathia gave up three runs via two walks, a single, a double, and a triple. After the first inning Sabathia settled down, and looked very solid throughout the rest of the game. The veteran hurled a total of 83 pitches, 52 of which were strikes.  CC Sabathia finished spring throwing 10 innings with an ERA of 8.10.

Andrew Bailey made another appearance today, and to be brutally honest, it was not his best outing. In the seventh inning he gave up three runs; off of one hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning pitch. Prior to today’s game, the team announced that Bailey will start the season in High-A Tampa so he can continue to bitch in warm weather without any problems.

Stephen Strasburg pitched against the Yankees today, and dominated the Yankee line up from top to bottom. Strasburg went 5.1, striking out six, and giving up only one run. Mark Teixeira doubled in the fourth, and was replaced as a pinch-runner by Jonathan Galvez. Chase Headley followed up Teixeira with another double, scoring Galvez and their first and run of the game. Chase Headley continued his dominant spring going 2-for-2 today, his batting average for the spring is now .321. The newly acquired Gregorio Petit was in the line up today going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts while leaving three base runners stranded.

The Yankees were able to add one more run in the ninth by Rob Refsnyder, who doubled in his only at bat of the afternoon. The Yankees lost their last home game of spring training 8-2.
