Mark Teixeira is a leader of the Yankees but can he stay healthy?

Teixeira has struggled to stay in the lineup the past two seasons. In 2013 he only appeared in 15 games because of the wrist injury. It limited him both offensively and defensively which made him a black hole for $22.5 million. Tex did have a healthier 2014 campaign if you will but even though he was there physically, his stats definitely were not present. In 123 games he had 22 home runs and 62 RBI’s with a .216/.313/.398 slash line.

It is safe to say that his past two seasons were painful to watch. However, Tex reported to camp in some of the best shape he has been in for a long time. He contributes his new physique to his new diet which cut out gluten, sugar, and dairy. The main idea behind his new diet is to maintain his health so that he can handle the day-to-day wear and tear from the game. Tex is reportedly aiming for 30 home runs and 100 RBI’s this season. It seems unlikely he will hit those goals after the last two seasons but the optimism is contagious.
