CC Sabathia was once the ace of the staff, can he regain form?

Do you remember when Sabathia was one of the big names brought in before the 2009 season? Do you remember when he helped bring the 27th championship to the Bronx as the head of the pitching staff in that 2009 season? Do you remember when he was an All-Star for the next three seasons (2010-2012)?

We have seen Sabathia decline in the past two seasons and his numbers have been far from an ace’s. He has had knee problems which have resulted in inconsistency in his accuracy. His ERA sky rocketed to a 4.78 and his strikeouts decreased as his walks increased in 2013. The one positive in that season was that he was a work horse and threw 211 innings. The same can’t be said about his 2014 campaign in which a knee injury side lined him and kept him to 46 innings. Sabathia was shut down in July after arthroscopic surgery on that knee.

Sabathia can show up as a reliable work horse once again in 2015 to help take the pressure off of Girardi and the rest of the rotation. He will most likely never get back to form as an ace but he can return to being a reliable pitcher. If healthy and consistent he could slot in to the number two hole in the rotation.
