Yankees Rumors: Cole Hamels Back On Radar?
By Jason Evans
Cole Hamels is still on the radar of many teams. The Red Sox have gone after him hard this off-season but haven’t wanted to give up some of their prospects like Blake Swihart. The Yankees havent been thought of having enough to get a deal done. Well, according to Nick Cafardo, they were actually close to landing the left-hander.
"The Phillies have talked with the Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, and Padres more than other teams. The Red Sox have not been willing to give up top prospects Blake Swihart and Mookie Betts for Hamels, a superb lefthanded starter.According to one Phillies source, the Yankees have come the closest to landing Hamels, offering a package of prospects that at least has given the Phillies a baseline for future talks.Hamels, who pitched two strong innings in his spring training debut Friday against the Yankees, has stopped talking about a trade. He said before camp that he was looking forward to pitching for a contender again, and that he would welcome a deal to Boston."
Now who’s in the package to get Hamels? Great question.
I’m going to guess Gary Sanchez is in it considering they could use a young catcher to come up and replace Carlos Ruiz if they trade him or when his deal expires in a couple of seasons.

Either Luis Severino or Aaron Judge would have to be a part of it as well to give them that top prospect they could potentially build around. I’m going to guess Severino.
Probably one of the young power bullpen arms would get put in as well, and the Phillies would certainly have their pick.
If I’m the Yankees, I have to seriously consider doing this deal. The addition of Hamels could very easily put them over the top in the division and make them a playoff team. On the plus side, you keep him away from the Red Sox.
Until Hamels is actually dealt, you’ll be hearing about how the Yankees may be a part of it.
