The Yankees front office has made a lot of moves this off-season, yet they were able to keep their farm system largely intact. This is important because for the first time in years, the Yankees farm system actually has talent. In fact, Yankee fans should be watching the minor league teams almost as much as the Bronx Bombers.
The top prospects to watch are Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, Jorge Mateo, Gregory Bird, Gary Sanchez, Ian Clarkin, Rob Refsnyder, and Jacob Lindgren. There’s a strong chance that Severino, Refsnyder, and Lindgren could see time in the Bronx this year. In short, the Yankees have guys that can play and are getting ready to play at the highest level.
The big league squad has a ton of potential. Guys like Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann are looking to have solid sophomore seasons with the team. Nathan Eovaldi and Didi Gregorius will be looking to have a strong first year in the Bronx after being traded from Miami and Arizona. Masahiro Tanaka, Michael Pineda, and Ivan Nova are looking to have bounce back years after losing major time to injuries in 2014.
This is a team that can go out and take the AL East, or wind up missing the playoffs for the third straight year. The potential is definitely there if everyone steps up. In the meantime, there are some very young, and very cheap, players itching to prove their worth.
The minor league system will truly make every level of the Yankees fun to watch this year. Unlike prior years, we may actually get to see them promoted to the big leagues rather than be traded for other team’s veterans. The 2015 season will spell out how long we can wait for them to mature.
