Prospect rankings are fun. They are there for fans to dream of their team’s next generation of stars. For the Yankees, one of their best prospects is among the best prospects among right-handed starters. MLB.com is releasing top ten lists at each position before their top 100 is revealed on January 30.

More from Yankees News

Yesterday, they did top right-handed starters and Luis Severino came in seventh on their top 10 list. Severino is second among AL pitchers only behind Orioles prospect Dylan Bundy, who only threw 41 innings last season after coming back from Tommy John surgery. The only other AL prospect on this list was the Twins’ Alex Meyer.

Severino turns 21 in February and struck out 127 in 113.1 innings last season. He only gave up 93 hits and walked just 27.

It wouldn’t shock me if Severino is on an innings limit of about 135 to 140 and that you see the final 60-70 innings in the Bronx. If he continues to pitch the way that he has and with the questions the Yankees have in the rotation why not use him in the majors? Even have him coming out of the bullpen to get his feet wet like the Cardinals did with Adam Wainwright before making him full-time starter like teams used to do.

Severino will be someone to watch during Spring Training and we are under a month from pitchers and catchers reporting.
