In an off-season that saw the Yankees acquire pitchers Nathan Eovaldi, Domingo German, Gonzalez Germen and re-sign Esmil Rogers, reliever Preston Claiborne knew his days as a Yankee were over. The Miami Marlins made it official after they claimed the righty reliever off waivers late this past week.

Claiborne has held his own as a big leaguer, with a 3.79 ERA and 58/24 K/BB ratio in 71 career innings through age 26, so Miami probably views him as a potential middle relief option. This included a 3-0 mark and 3.00 ERA in 21 innings in 2014.
He was originally the Yankees’ 17th-round draft pick in 2010 and debuted in the majors in May of 2013. The Yankees have a plethora of bullpen choices, even with the losses of Claiborne and closer David Robertson. Dellin Betances figures to be the heir to Robertson, while a power trio of Andrew Miller, Justin Wilson, and rookie Jacob Lindgren could make up the most dangerous back-end of a bullpen in all of baseball.
