The New York Yankees have made a trade today. According to Jon Heyman, the Bombers have dealt infielder Martin Prado and long reliever David Phelps to the Miami Marlins for pitcher Nathan Eovaldi and first baseman/outfielder Garrett Jones. The deal places a young power arm in the Bombers rotation, along with a left-handed power hitter who can DH, backup Mark Teixeira at first base, and can play some outfield as well.

Prado, who prior to the re-signing of Chase Headley, was slated to be the Yankees starting third baseman. He’s become expendable with the development of Rob Refsnyder and Jose Pirela at second base. Phelps, who lost out on the fifth starter job to Michael Pineda last spring, battle injuries the second half of last season. He could be the #5 starter for Miami in 2015.
In 2014, the soon to be 25-year-old Eovaldi went 6-14 with an ERA of 4.37. He struck out 142 in just under 200 innings of work. He led the National League in hits allowed, with 223. Jones, 33, hit .246 with 15 home runs and 45 RBIs in 496 plate appearances in 2014.
