New York Yankees Rumors: Headley’s First Choice Is Yankees?

Maybe this year’s third baseman won’t be Martin Prado. Maybe it’ll be Chase Headley. As the Winter Meetings are set to begin in San Diego this week, Headley will certainly be a name to watch and according to CBS Sports Jon Heyman, Headley wants to come back to New York.

More from Yankees News

"Headley and the Yankees’ two-month 2014 marriage is said to have worked by all involved, as the Yankees loved him at third and in the clubhouse, and he is said to have told folks he was stunned about how much he enjoyed New York. Headley is a Fountain, Colo. and Univeristy or Tennessee product who starred here in San Diego for years.Headley is said to have suggested to some the Yankees are his top choice."

Heyman also says the Yankees recently met with Headley’s representation. However, the Giants, Marlins and Astros all have interest in the switch-hitting third baseman so the Yankees will have some competition for his services.

If Headley does indeed have that big offer as reported earlier in the week, it wasn’t from the Yankees, who would like him back at less than the $65 million offer he supposedly has.

Headley played well in his 58 games with the Yankees, hitting .262 with six homers and 17 RBI and especially on the defensive end.

The Yankees could go with Prado at third and have Jose Pirela or Rob Refsnyder at second.

It’s another story to watch for this week as the Winter Meetings begin.
