YGY Radio Show Rewind: Free Agent Update/Giancarlo Talk

On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, we decided to do it two days earlier than our usual Thursday off-season time with this Thursday being Thanksgiving. Even with the earlier show date, the Hot Stove continued to heat up, especially in Boston. On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox officially introduced their new free agent acquisitions, third baseman Pablo Sandoval and now left fielder Hanley Ramirez. The Chicago White Sox also made news last week as they signed first baseman Adam LaRoche to a two-year, $25 million deal. Despite all the signings taking place, the Yankees have continued to stay in the background.

Our first guest on the show was the former editor of Yanks Go Yard and now the founder of The Baseball Stance, Christopher Carelli. Chris and I gave our reactions to the Red Sox signings and discussed whether or not the Yankees would get more aggressive on the free agent market if Boston was able to sign their former ace, Jon Lester. Another player we talked about was Chase Headley, in regards to an AL scout telling ESPN New York’s Andrew Marchand that signing Headley to a long deal was “risky business.” Finally, how would the fan base respond if the Yankees did not make any significant splashy moves to the club over the course of the entire winter?

Then, we took a little break from the Yankees’ talk as I welcomed in one of the writers from Yanks Go Yard who is now one of the co-editors at Marlin Maniac, Scott Alfano. Scott and I started our conversation by getting his thoughts on the 13-year, $325 million contract that was signed by Stanton last week. Scott also answered the question about what the Marlins might do next in terms of trades/free agency and whether this move means the team will look to keep some of its other core players to make a run at a playoff spot in 2015. Plus, Scott and I also took a look at some of the free agents still out there as we played a game involving Thanksgiving that I am sure you will enjoy.
