A-Rod Could Face Further Punishment But Not With Current Evidence

Controversial Yankees’ third baseman Alex Rodriguez could be heading for more trouble with Major League Baseball, but not yet. Rodriguez was previously suspended for the entire 2014 season for using several different Performance Enhancing Drugs and for trying to cover up his actions by tampering with MLBs investigation and its potential findings.

It was recently reported that A-Rod acknowledged his use of banned substances to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), but this was information that MLB had already punished Rodriguez with and won’t pursue further action.

However, according to a story from Yahoo! Sports writer Jeff Passan, Major League Baseball could pursue another avenue.

If it’s discovered that A-Rod helped distribute banned substances, he could face further discipline under Joint-Drug Agreement 7F, but baseball is reportedly not going to pursue this possibility at this moment.

On the other hand, if more information is revealed, MLB could change their minds and pursue further discipline under the “just cause” provision found in rule 7G. Apparently this possibility is “pretty unlikely” per Passan’s source.

In the meantime, it appears that this circus will be following the Yankees into Spring Training. The report also states that the team won’t buy him out nor will they use him at third base where he’s been since joining the Yankees in 2004.

“We’re not prepared just to let him go and eat $61 million,” a team source told Passan. This means that their only chance to get rid of Rodriguez would be for him to be deemed physically unfit to play due to injury. The Yankees would then get 80% of his remaining salary back because of insurance.

Though it doesn’t appear that more discipline is necessary or even possible, let us not forget who this is about. Wherever Alex Rodriguez goes, headlines tend to follow.
