After an entire season of a lifeless offense, the Yankees have relieved hitting coach Kevin Long of all his coaching duties. It comes as no surprise that Long will not return as many Yankees fans were calling for his job. When a team spends half a billion dollars to improve, you would expect a big return from offensive juggernauts like Brian McCann, Mark Teixeira, Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran to perform at a higher level than they did (Although McCann and Ellsbury did round out there numbers and finish with better than decent production).

Long has been praised for his work with former Yankees such as Robinson Cano, but other than that, he’s fallen under criticism as players like Teixeira and Curtis Granderson (Obviously a former Bomber) have seen significant drops in their numbers while under his tutelage.Â

The Yankees also relieved first base coach Mick Kelleher today, and that could be due to the awful display of base running the club put on this season. A few more moves can be expected within the next day or so as there have been rumblings about bullpen coach Gary Tuck being given a new role and even speculation on current Diamondbacks pitching coach
Mike Harkeyp0ssibly returning to the team although no moves have been made yet.
Look for Mike Harkey to return to the Yankees as bullpen coach. Gary Tuck could become Girardi's bench coach again, which he was in Miami.

As for who could replace Long as the hitting coach, former Yankees like Jorge Posada (The Yankees intense former catcher and member of the Core Four), Paul O’Neill (who has expressed interest in coaching before), Tino Martinez (who coached in Miami with the Marlins) and Jason Giambi (he’s been praised for his leadership while with the Rockies and Indians) among others, could all be candidates. More moves are likely to come. Keep an eye on those rumors!
