4. 2B Billy Fleming (.235, 0 HR’s, 2 RBI’s)

A couple of weeks ago, we told you about the Yankees’ organization promoting Billy Fleming up to Staten Island from the Gulf Coast. While it is only a ten-game sample size from the 21-year-old from West Virginia, Fleming did seem to hold his own.

While he made four errors in the field this season here in Staten Island, his bat was a big contribution to the team. Fleming had seven hits in his last five games, including three multi-hit games in a row along with a pair of RBI’s. He was the one who got the Baby Bombers on the board on Saturday night with a two-run single in the 3rd inning, his only two RBI’s of the season.

He was mainly a singles’ hitter, but he did find a way to get on base, especially against left-handed pitching, which he hit .357 against in the NYPL. He played mainly at second base, which allowed All-Star Ty McFarland to play more at third base and gave him a couple of games off as well.

After hitting .375 with 11 RBI’s in the GCL, Fleming’s performance did merit a promotion. The last five games proved that for him as he got used to the higher quality of pitching and to be able to get those hits in pressure-filled situations:
