Preliminary rosters for the 2014 Arizona Fall League were announced yesterday. Think of the Arizona Fall League as something similar to the NBA’s summer league where some of the top prospects in the game can face each other. Every team sends a few prospects and the Yankees will be sending five players to help make up the Scottsdale Scorpions. (All stats as of 8/26/14)

The lone pitcher is right-hander Branden Pinder. Pinder is currently on the 7-day DL for Triple-A Scranton. Pinder was the Yankees 16th round pick in 2011, and across three levels is 3-0 with a 2.04 ERA. In 39.2 innings pitched, he’s struck out 37 and allowed 29 hits.

The Yankees are sending some familiar prospect names as hitters to the team. Greg Bird and Eric Jagielo will be the infielders. Bird was just added to Double-A Trenton a few weeks ago, and in that time, has posted a .253/.371/.613 with seven homers and 10 RBI in 21 games. Jagielo was one of the Yankees three first round picks last season, and at High-A Tampa is hitting .248/.349/.448 with 15 homers and 50 RBI in 80 games.

In the outfield, the Yankees will send Tyler Austin and Aaron Judge. Yankee fans have heard all about Austin for a couple of years now and after an injury plagued 2013 and start of 2014, Austin was named an Eastern League All-Star for Double-A Trenton, compiling a .275/.336/.419 line with nine homers, 20 doubles and 47 RBI. Judge at Low-A Charleston and High-A Tampa has a .309/.417/.493 with 17 homers and 78 RBI.
