Tampa Yankees (62-62) defeat the Daytona Cubs (56-64) 7-2

The Yankees were able to make some noise at the plate, and great pitching backed them up as they were able to come out with the victory. Tampa had the lead of 2-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning, when Daytona added a run. The Yankees were able to strike back and get that run back, along with adding a couple others. It was 7-1 heading into the top of the ninth, when the Cubs were trying to threaten. However, they just only scored one run in that frame.

Brett Gerritse put on a startling performance, and was able to pick up his fourth win of the year. He pitched a solid six innings, giving up one run on three hits. He also was able to strike out five. Ramon Benjamin came on in relief and was even able to pick up his first save of the year. He pitched three innings, and gave up one run on three hits. Cito Culver went 2-for-4 for Tampa, including drive in three runs.

Tampa will continue their series with Daytona in a Saturday matinee that is set to begin at 12:00 PM. Conner Kendrick will get the start, coming in with a 4-7 record and 5.92 ERA.
