Brothers. Sisters. Fellow Yankee fans. I write this column to you today as a broken down fan. A frustrated fan. Now our plight isn’t exactly the plight of let’s say Chicago Cubs fans or Colorado Rockies fans, but come October, the Yankees are going to be in the same position. Not in the playoffs.
Who’s to blame? Joe Girardi? Can’t blame it all on him. Though last night trying to get three innings out of Dellin Betances was sheer lunacy. Brian Cashman? He put the team together, though I think some of the blame has to fall on his shoulders.
Once upon a time, the Yankees were built on power. Guys like Hideki Matsui, Alex Rodriguez (PED’s or not), Gary Sheffield, Robinson Cano. This year’s team has no power. Look at what the Orioles did the past two games. Guys like Adam Jones and Nelson Cruz were hitting huge, clutch home runs, something the Yankees did once upon a time.
Here’s what the Yankees should do the rest of the way. Tell Masahiro Tanaka to not throw again until 2015. It’s not worth it at this point. Keep the rotation the way it is right now. Let Shane Greene develop to see if he’s part of the club moving forward. See if Brandon McCarthy is an answer. Put Hiroki Kuroda on waivers and see what you can get for him. The Dodgers would be quite interested. Bring up Jacob Lindgren in September and see what he has. He’s pitched extremely well in the minors see what he’s got.

Hitting wise tell Stephen Drew to grab some bench. It’s Rob Refsnyder‘s time at second. He’s got a .304/.397/.484 line with eight homers and 27 RBI in 58 games. HE’s AN IMPROVEMENT OVER WHAT THEY CURRENTLY HAVE IT’S TIME TO SEE WHAT HE HAS. Ichiro Suzuki should not see the field the rest of the way. He’s not part of the future and he’s not exactly helpful in the present. If they want to use a defensive replacement for Martin Prado in right, how about bringing back Zoilo Almonte? Having 13 pitchers is ridiculous unless it’s September.
The Yankees need to land an impact bat. Troy Tulowitzki, bad hip not withstanding, can and should be that guy. It could be a great time to get him coming off an injury so his value is down. They are going to have to add a starting pitcher or two as well.
This season ended when Adam Jones’ homer went over the left field fence. To quote Bob Seger, turn the page.
