Players to Watch

Michael Pineda, as said before is making his first start in three months. It’s important to keep a keen eye on Pineda and see if he dares to use an illegal substance on the ball, like he has done in the past. Also, be aware of his pitch count and how long manager Joe Girardi keeps him in when he starts to miss with his key pitches.

Nelson Cruz has been outstanding this year, posting 31 homeruns and 83 RBIs through 116 games. Cruz, aside from the ability to hit the ball over the wall, also uses the gaps to his advantage; he has 21 doubles this year. The Yankees will need to carefully pitch Cruz and avoid giving him any good fastballs.

Brett Gardner was hot for a while; actually he was red hot for the entire season. Now that he is slowing down and has been slumping, and  the Yankees can use him more than ever. Gardner was providing power for the Yankees, something very unexpected from the speedy leadoff hitter. If he can get back into a groove the Yankees can be more relaxed at the top of the order.
