Game 3

In the series finale, which will be the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball feature, the two rivals will send a pair of righties to the mound to square off. For the Yankees, David Phelps (5-5, 3.89 ERA) looks to continue his limited success against the Red Sox. Phelps had a super July for the Yankees, helping them stay in the race by posting a 2-1 record, with a 2.97 ERA in five July starts. In his career against Boston, which includes 3 starts, Phelps is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA. He also recorded his first big league save against Boston earlier this season.

The Red Sox will send Clay Buchholz (5-7, 5.87 ERA) to face the new-look Bombers. He looked like he had finally turned the corner prior to the All-Star Break, dominating the Houston Astros, but since his return from his short vacation, he has gotten rocked. In his three second half starts, he’s allowed at least 4 earned runs in each, while walking eight hitters and striking out just as many. This could turn into a slugfest for both clubs, and with the game being in Fenway, on a Sunday night, strange things seem to happen when these two teams lock horns.
