On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show brought to you by KNODA.com, we celebrated our 100th episode of the show. While I have been doing podcasts in some way shape or form since 2011, this is officially the 100th episode of the YGY Radio show since it re-launched in December of 2013. For this episode, we had some special guests that I think you will enjoy.

More from Yankees News

My first guest on the episode was the great author and longtime head of the New York Yankees’ Public Relations, Marty Appel. Marty and I discussed his favorite moments while on staff with the Yankees, including the experience of working with the team in the late 1970’s during the Reggie JacksonBilly Martin-George Steinbrenner years.

Other topics we discussed included how George would have handled the Alex Rodriguez situation, this new era of Yankees’ baseball without Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter, and who would be on Marty’s Mount Rushmore? You will also want to hear why he thinks Bill Dickey is one of the more underappreciated players in Yankees’ history.

Marty also told the listeners about his new children’s book that is coming out soon called Pinstripe Pride and the foreword he wrote for 100 Years of Who’s Who In Baseball.

After Mr. Appel’s appearance, my next guest was Jason Evans, the co-editor of Yanks Go Yard and Friars On Base. Jason and I went over some of the proposed pace of play changes that new commissioner Rob Manfred might make as well as the possibility of banning the defensive shifts. Jason and I also discussed the latest PECOTA rankings from Baseball Prospectus, which predicted New York would finish fourth in the AL East with an 80-82 record.

My final guest was Brendan Kuty, the Yankees’ beat writer for NJ.com and The Star Ledger. Brendan and I discussed more of A-Rod, including the irony that the MLB Players’ Union would reportedly back Rodriguez despite A-Rod suing them in the past if New York tries to take away his home run bonuses. We also looked ahead to our most compelling non A-Rod storyline heading into Spring Training.

Also, we discussed the free agent pitcher that is still on the market, James Shields. Should New York show interest in Shields and does their lack of interest indicate that they will be one of the big suitors for the high quality of pitching free agents next offseason? Finally, Brendan and I make our cases as to why Adam Warren should stay in the bullpen and not in the rotation.
