Yanks Go Yard Radio Show Rewind: 2015 Winter Meetings Preview

Last night’s episode featured reaction to the Red Sox signing David Price and a look ahead to the Winter Meetings.

On last night’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, we began the look ahead to next week’s Winter Meetings that will take place in Nashville, Tennessee. As a reminder, you can catch a one hour episode of the show Monday-Thursday of next week, beginning at 9 PM ET, where we breakdown the day’s news and rumors from both a New York Yankees and national perspective.

First, we took a look at the biggest news of the week, which was David Price signing a seven-year, $217 million with the Yankees’ biggest rivals, the Boston Red Sox. After finishing in last place two of the last three seasons, Boston had to make this move to bring in the ace that helped lead the Blue Jays’ push to the AL East title.

To get more insight on the Price news, I spoke with DJ Smith, who is the co-host of the Chowder and Champions Podcast. DJ and I talked about his reaction to the Price deal and talked about how he feels this is a symbolic change for the Red Sox organization. Plus, what impact has new president Dave Dombrowski had on the organization and is Boston truly done making big moves this winter after acquiring Price and closer Craig Kimbrel?

More from Yankees News

After discussing if Red Sox fans are worried about Price’s postseason numbers, I talked about how this move impacts the Yankees. While I don’t expect general manager Brian Cashman to make big moves to react to this signing and Boston did pay a lot of money to get Price, New York will be hurt in the short term. As a Blue Jay, Price was 3-0 in four starts against New York, gave up five total runs, struck out 27 batters, and only walked five over 26.1 innings.

Once the Price discussion ended, I unveiled by top storylines to look out for from a Yankees’ perspective this week in Nashville. Will New York upgrade at second base from their current platoon of Dustin Ackley and Robert Refsnyder? Does Cashman trade Brett Gardner, Andrew Miller, or Ivan Nova and acquire young, controllable starting pitching. Plus, if Miller is traded, do they add another free agent arm in the bullpen? Even though the Yankees don’t seem to be in on the high priced free agents, I wouldn’t rule out Cashman making a big splash next week by going a different direction?
