New York Yankees Editorial: Pineda Gone For At Least A Month

New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda has had an injury riddled career, and it seems to continue this season. GM Brian Cashman has reported that Pineda’s injury will have him out of the rotation for at least a month, and while the Yankees have found the solution for his replacement in Luis Severino, there still might be a cause for nervousness in it lingering further than expected.

Cashman explained that Pineda’s injury seemed similar to Yankees’ closer Andrew Miller‘s. That injury had Miller out for a month, and he has come back good as new. Pineda’s like Miller’s injury, seemed to come out of nowhere, and before you know it the team announced they were on the DL for a good month. However, unlike Andrew Miller, Pineda will be needed for at least six innings an outing, and come playoff time, maybe more.

Some can look at this in a positive way being the injury isn’t that serious from what is known. Pineda’s innings were already high enough for a pitcher, who has 171 innings as a career high (with 28 games started). At the announcement of his injury, Pineda was at 118 innings over 18 games started.

It’s a tough way to find out, but without these injuries the Yankees wouldn’t know what they had in the minors. Luis Severino lived up to the hype last night in his debut, enough to get Pineda’s injury out of fans’ heads for a little. Brian Cashman also didn’t seem too worried in rushing him back either, he knows come October, Pineda will really be needed. So there is no rush, let the rehab and rest do it’s job, August is time for Severino to back up the veterans.
