New York Yankees Editorial: Why Didn’t the Yankees Acquire David Price?

The New York Yankees have finally built a farm system that features multiple players that will be starting everyday in the Yankees future. The old Yankee way would be to trade the farm system for established veterans to win the World Series. This new philosophy is the reason David Price is in Toronto, and not in New York donning those beautiful pinstripes.

The Blue Jays have gone all in this year. They are giving away their best prospects to get star talent. The Blue Jays gave away maybe their biggest prospect to acquire Price. Detroit wanted a major league ready pitcher, and Daniel Norris was the main piece to bring Price to the Blue Jays. Toronto was willing to give up their best prospect, and that is something the Yankees have been reluctant to do this trade deadline.

This entire trade deadline Brian Cashman has been adamant that the Yankees will not trade their top three prospects. The Yankees have built this farm system, and Cashman does not want to trade away this new core of the Yankees future. If Cashman was willing to deal Luis Severino, the Yankees top prospect, then I am positive Price would have been a New York Yankee.

I always believe if you have a shot to win the World Series you do whatever you need to do to win it all. The Kansas City Royals believe they could win the World Series, and they went out and got Johnny Cueto. I do believe adding Price could have been a key piece to help the New York Yankees win the World Series.
