New York Yankees Recap: Tanaka Struggles as Yankees Lose to Rangers 5-2

The New York Yankees sent Masahiro Tanaka to the mound on this hot summer Texas night, but the results were not as favorable. It was a grind all day for the Yankee ace, and the Yankees could not find their groove as they lost 5-2.

In the top of the second, Carlos Beltran  continued his hot hitting with a home run to start the frame. The Yankees were not done as the bottom of the order continue to hit, in particular Didi Gregorius. Didi got a base hit, followed by a single by Stephen Drew. Jacoby Ellsbury followed back to back singles with another single. This single brought in Gregorius, and gave the Yankees the early lead 2-0.

Masahiro Tanaka was not able to hold the lead, however as the Rangers answered back in the bottom of the second. Josh Hamilton was able to get an RBI single to cut the lead in half. Then later in the inning Shin-Soo Choo tied the game at two with an RBI single. Then the Rangers continued the rally and scored another run. An RBI single from Delino DeShields score Josh Hamilton to be leading the game 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, Tanaka was in another jam. The Rangers had first and third with no one out, and Josh Hamilton at the plate. Josh Hamilton grounded into a double play, and was able to bring the runner home from third base to make the score 4-2. Tanaka was not his best today, as he struggled through out the entire game. Tanaka only went six innings while giving up four runs.

In the bottom of the seventh Josh Hamilton got the Yankees again. Hamilton hit another RBI single, this time off of Caleb Cotham. Caleb was making his debut for the Yankees, after being called up earlier in the day. The Yankees trailed 5-2 and weren’t able to make the comeback, and lose game three of this four game series.

The Yankees look to take the series against the Rangers tomorrow at 8:05. Michael Pineda will be taking the mound for the Yankees. The Rangers are going with Yovani Gallardo.
