The New York Yankees just can’t quit Brendan Ryan or Stephen Drew. Carlos Beltran is back but neither Drew nor Ryan were DFA’d. Instead, prospect Rob Refsnyder was sent back down to AAA.
#Yankees reinstate OF @carlosbeltran15 from the 15-day DL; option INF Rob Refsnyder to @swbrailriders.
— New York Yankees (@Yankees) July 19, 2015
Refsnyder in four games hit .167 with a homer and two RBI in 13 plate appearances.
Beltran will go back right into rightfield and will be starting there today for the Yankees.
I’m not quite sure why the Yankees would do this. Drew has had some big homers for the team, but can’t hit anymore. Ryan can’t hit and can’t stay healthy.
I’m not sure why Ryan wasn’t DFA’d. Drew can be the utility infielder and Garrett Jones can back up Mark Teixeira at first base. A 13 plate audition is nothing, and it continues to show the lack of faith the Yankees have in their prospects.
We can talk about these prospects all we want, but at the end of the day, until the Yankees actually give them a chance they are just hopes and dreams at this point.
