New York Yankees News: Rob Refsnyder Here To Stay?

The answer to that question is yes. Rob Refsnyder will be on the New York Yankees roster on Friday when the Yankees take on Robinson Cano and the Seattle Mariners. Here’s what the NY Post said about Refsnyder.

"The Yankees aren’t sending the rookie second baseman back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and he will be in The Bronx when the All-Star break ends and the team returns to action Friday against the Mariners at Yankee Stadium, according to a source."

As you saw in last night’s All-Star Game, youth is being served throughout baseball, and if you don’t have good young players, you don’t have a chance to be successful.

Now this could mean they are showcasing him as a trade chip. You don’t think Cincinnati would love getting him back for Johnny Cueto? Or Philly for Cole Hamels? Please.

What my guess is, is that it’s Refsnyder’s job through July 30. If he hits and plays good defense, he’ll be the second baseman. If he doesn’t, the Yankees will be doing some shopping on deadline day.

When Brendan Ryan returns, which could even be Friday since he’s been playing in the minors lately, Gregorio Petit will go down and Ryan and Stephen Drew will be two great gloves to have come off the bench and give infielders a day off here and there.

I’m not saying Refsnyder will turn into what Manny Machado was for Orioles when he came up or be the next Joe Morgan, but it’s nice to have a homegrown young player on the roster that has a chance.

Refsnyder has a chance to own the second base job. Let’s see how he does the next two weeks. If he doesn’t perform, July 31 will be even more interesting.
