facebooktwitterreddit

The All-Star teams were just announced and the New York Yankees have two representatives and possibly a third if the fans do their part to get him in.

Dellin Betances was the lone Yankees pitcher and Ned Yost said on ESPN that Betances may the AL seventh inning guy. Betances is 5-1 with seven saves and a 1.50 ERA. Betances has struck out 68 in 42 innings, while allowing just 18 hits and walking 18. It’s the second straight Midsummer Classic appearance for the right-hander in his age 27 season.

If Miguel Cabrera was healthy, Mark Teixeira would not be an All-Star. He’s not, so Albert Pujols will start and Tex will be the backup first baseman.

This is the third time Teixeira has been named an All-Star, and the second time as a Yankee. Teixeira has been one of the most important Yankees this season, compiling a .243/.356/.532 line. Teixeira is fifth in the AL in homers with 20 and leads the league in RBI with 59.

Brett Gardner didn’t make the team, but he is one of the five that you can vote for in the AL fan vote. He is up against Brian Dozier, Mike Moustakas,Xander Bogaerts and Yoenis Cespedes

Gardner has put together an impressive first half. He’s hitting .297/.373/.481 with nine homers, 39 RBI, 15 steals and 60 runs scored.

Nowhere to be found is Alex Rodriguez, who is the only player with an OPS of  over .900 not to make the team.
