New York Yankees Recap: Alex Rodriguez Homers to Reach 3K as Yankees Win 7-2

The fans were settling in when Alex Rodriguez was about to take his first at-bat of the game. With two outs nobody on in the bottom of the first, Alex Rodriguez hit an opposite home run to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the first inning. That hit was a special hit for A-Rod as he was able to reach 3,000 hits over his career.

Rodriguez joins Derek Jeter, and Wade Boggs as the only people to hit a home run for their 3,000th hit. Worth noting the person who caught the ball is known as “Foul Ball” guy. He goes to stadiums all over the country trying to catch baseballs. After the A-Rod home run, crazy there was a baseball game that was playing and the Yankees were playing against the Detroit Tigers. The first two innings were a little chaotic for both teams. A-Rod’s 3000th hit home run gave the Yankees a lead, but then The Tigers were able to answer back with two runs of their own. In the bottom of the second Didi Gregorius was able to tie the game at two a piece.

Justin Verlander was able to settle down, and then the bottom of the fifth came. Mason Williams was able to get on with a base hit, and then Brett Gardner was able to plant one in the seats, and gave the Yankees a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh Gardner was able to bunt to get on base, and followed by a Chase Headley single to move Gardner to third. Then with a wild pitch Brett Gardner was able to take home in a very heads up play, and made the game 5-2.

In the bottom of the eighth Gardner was able to have another RBI to go 4 for 5 and always seems like he is around the action. Every time a big at-bat for the Yankees Brett Gardner is up, and doing something productive.

Later in the seventh the Yankees were able to tack another run with a Mark Teixeira single, and Justin Verlander line finished going 6 2/3 giving up 10 hits and six earned runs. Verlander still has not won at Yankee Stadium with a record of 0-4 over 7 starts.

Adam Warren looked great tonight. If Alex Rodriguez’s home run was headline 1, the start from Adam Warren was 1A. Warren struggled through the first two innings, but settled down for the best start of his career. Warren was able to go eight full innings, for the first time in his career. Warren was able to strikeout seven, walk nobody, and only give up two runs over his eight innings of great work.

The Yankees look to continue their winning streak, as they play game two of a three game series with the Tigers. First pitch tomorrow is schedule at 7:15 as Nathan Eovaldi looks to bounce back from his terrible start in Miami.
