The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles  5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Camden Yards. John Ryan Murphy provided the big hit with a two-run double in the fifth inning.

The Yankees wasted no time getting on the board in the in the first. Brett Gardner singled and then scored on a Mark Teixeira double. Teixeira was able to reach second base by hustling straight out of the batters´s box. It appeared that his line drive might fall in foul territory. But he assumed the best and was rewarded with a double when the ball landed fair.

The Orioles struck back quickly in the bottom of the inning. Manny Machado and Adam Jones scored on a Nolan Reimold single to take a 2-1 lead. Adam Warren´s fastball did not seem to have its normal zip. He was topping off at 91 miles per hour.

In the second the Yankees had Orioles´ starter Mike Wright on the ropes. They loaded the bases with no outs. But they managed to score only one run on a Brett Gardner sacrifice fly to tie the score. The game remained tied until  Reimold scored in the fourth on a Caleb Joseph double to right field to put Baltimore up 3-2.

The Yankees loaded the bases  again in the top of the fifth. Garrett Jones walked to bring home Chase Headley with the tying run. The big hit of the inning came from John Ryan Murphy, who  doubled to score Alex Rodriguez and Teixeira to give the Yankees a 5-3 advantage.

Joe Girardi replaced Warren with Chasen Shreve with two outs in the fifth. Shreve stayed in for the sixth. After he walked Machado to open the bottom of the seventh, Girardi called on Justin Wilson. Wilson retired three straight batters to extinguish the rally before it got started. Wilson also set the side down in order in the eighth to retire all six batters that he faced.

Dellin Betances came on in the ninth. He allowed only one base runner to seal the win. Betances looked sharp even though he had not pitched for five days. Shreve got the win to improve his record to 3-1.
