Yankees News: Injured Pitchers Continue Their Road Back

Pitching. Pitching. Pitching. You can never have enough of it. The New York Yankees have three guys on the mend from various injuries to make their pitching even stronger. Their starting rotation and bullpen have been a big part of why the Yankees are at the top of the AL East and are about to get that much better.

Ivan Nova threw an extended spring game against the Phillies in front of Larry Rothschild and Joe Girardi. Nova threw 33 pitches and will throw again on Monday. He hasn’t been cleared for a rehab assignment yet. Once he does, the Yankees have 30 days to activate him.

"“I was a little bit excited,” Nova said. “It felt like I was doing too much. I guess I was trying to impress the manager and the pitching coach. I don’t know why.”"

Chris Capuano may be back really soon. Like maybe this weekend soon. Capuano went six innings and got the win for Scranton last night. He threw 76 pitches, gave up seven hits and two runs while striking out three.

Capuano last year went 2-3 with a 4.25 ERA in 12 starts after the Yankees bought him from the Rockies in July. Capuano hurt his calf during Spring Training and has been out since.

Masahiro Tanaka threw his first bullpen since being injured and we’ll wait on how he’s feeling today.

If all three can come back healthy, it’ll give Girardi many options as to how to use each guy. Could they go to a six man rotation? Does Adam Warren go back to his role of seventh inning reliever? It’ll work itself out. Anytime you think you have too many pitchers, something happens.
