Mark Buehrle Gets Second Win Ever Against Yankees

The New York Yankees lost two out of three against the Toronto Blue Jays, before heading home to take on another AL East rival, the Baltimore Orioles. While the bats have been more than enough to take control of games, they were lacking for the most part in Toronto. Not only was this a little surprise, it was who got it done against the Yanks that came as a bigger surprise.

When you think of Mark Buehrle, you should think of one of the top pitchers in the last 15 years. With 203 wins all time, to think he had gone 11 years in his career without a win against the Yankees is hard to believe, but was true. What made this even more unlikely was that Buehrle spent just one year in the National League, every other he has been an American League pitcher.

Buehrle last win against the Yankees came in 2004, a year in which he had four complete games. Eleven years later and Buehrle recorded a win over the Yankees, 5-1 on Wednesday night. His record against the Yankees improved to 2-14 in 22 starts.

In Wednesday’s game the Yankees were getting on base, but could just not bring them in. Buehrle was getting out of trouble, and rightfully earned his win. Not only did he get an unusual win against the Yanks, but he gave them their first series loss in five series’. The Yankees are still in first place and are four games above the Jays.
