Yankees News: Joe Girardi doesn’t like traveling after Sunday night games
Following their three game sweep of the Boston Red Sox, the first since 2006, the New York Yankees spent the night in Boston, flying into Toronto late Monday morning, about seven hours before they were scheduled to take on the Blue Jays.
Manager Joe Girardi felt that the decision allowed his players to remain on a normal sleep schedule:
"We would have got (to Toronto) at 4 or 4:30 in the morning. You encourage your players not to go to bed at that time unless we’re traveling."
The Yankees had to receive permission from Major League Baseball to travel in the morning, as although teams aren’t forced to arrive in a new city the night before a series, they are required to inform the commissioner’s office of their plans.

Girardi agrees with this stating “I think the idea behind it is good”. While he agrees with the idea of informing the league of their travel plans, the Yankees manager feels that teams should get a day off on Monday’s following a Sunday night game, if they have to travel:
"I think we’ve said it enough publicly that if you’re traveling, you should have the day off. You talk about wanting to keep your starters on the field. Physically, it makes it really hard. It’s just really difficult sometimes with the schedule."
Girardi said that if his players approve, the team could use the same travel strategy again this season:
"I’ll get a pulse of everybody and see what they think."
