Yankees News: Rob Refsnyder on the Rise
After nearly making the New York Yankees big-league roster out of Spring Training after posting an impressive spring training slash line of .364/.462/.568, second-base prospect Rob Refsnyder struggled mightily in his start to the 2015 season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Through his first nine games of the season, Refsnyder was batting as low as .229 with just two RBI’s and one extra base hit. We all knew he was sent to the minors to sharpen up his defense skill set , but he still managed to record an alarming seven errors through his first 19 games played.
However, it seems as if Rob Refsnyder is finally returning to form, and by form, I mean he looks like the same ball player who batted 3.18/.387/.497 in 2014 between AA and AAA.
Refsnyder is 12-for-44 with four doubles, two walks, three runs and six RBIs in his last ten games. He’s now batting .268, and while currently riding a five game hitting streak, it’s evident that he’s improved his offensive production drastically.
Also, Refsnyder is finally starting to look like a steady defender in the field. Despite the seven errors earlier on in the year, he hasn’t committed a defensive blunder in any of his last five games.
I’m not sure if it was the conflicting reports that the Yankees were interested in Braves second-base prospect Jose Peraza earlier in the month or the fact that Jose Pirela is close to returning, but a spark has certainly been lit under Rob Refsnyder, and I’m hoping it stays this way.
He’s projected to be a big part of the Yankees future.
