New York Yankee CC Sabathia is Getting his Confidence Back

Last year CC Sabathia had his worst year as a professional Major League Baseball player. His season ended abruptly with knee surgery. This spring CC has said has felt better than he did last spring. It showed in his last spring training start against the Mets at Tradition Field

"There is definitely a lot more life than in the past couple of years, it’s an extra pitch I can use. I feel a lot better, I can worry about getting my command down and hitting my spots and going from here."

It is very important to have a confident CC Sabathia for the New York Yankees this year. While we will never see the CC of the 2009 where he was the best pitcher of a World Series team, we can still see a very effective CC. As a lefty CC can pitch for years. What CC needs to work on is his command now.

"I have to work on my delivery, my cutter wasn’t that good today, couldn’t get it for a strike and couldn’t get it away from lefties, the change up was straight."

For Sabathia, the way to be successful he needs to locate, locate, and guess what locate. He will not be able to blow pitchers missing spots, anymore he needs to adjust, and become an accurate pitcher. While I like that his velocity is up, he will need to be able to hit the corners, and change the speed of the ball to have a successful year.

Yankee’s pitching coach Larry Rothschild was quoted about CC Sabathia progress this spring.

"He is catching up, the arm speed is encouraging. He was good to the glove side; arm side not very good. If he is encouraged, I am encouraged. I think he will get on a run and pitch the way we have seen him pitch."

It is baby steps for CC, and I believe with Larry Rothschild that CC will have a bounce back year, and be the AL Comeback Player of the year. How is that for a hot take!
