Pentland has a history with some of the current members of the Yankees. He worked with Joe Girardi when Girardi was with the Cubs from 2000-2002. On that Cubs staff in 2002 was pitching coach Larry Rothschild. Tony Pena was the Royals manager and Carlos Beltran was a Royals player when Pentland was the hitting coach from 2003-2005.
Cockrell was the Rockies hitting coach in 2007 when they went to the World Series. He was also the hitting coach for the Mariners for the 2009 and part of the 2010 season.
Now all the Yankees need is a first base coach and the staff will be set.
