YGY Radio Rewind: Winter Meetings Recap Day 2

On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show brought to you by KNODA.com, I started off the show by discussing my thoughts on the contract that happened late Monday night involving David Robertson. The former Yankee closer was given a four-year, $46 million contract by the White Sox to become their new closer. We also found out that the Yankees never offered Robertson a contract throughout the free agent process.

On Tuesday, we found out that the sweepstakes for starting pitcher Jon Lester is down to two teams. With the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants now out, only the Cubs and Lester’s old team, the Boston Red Sox, are the ones still in the running.

For this show, Braden Romine, one of our new writers here at Yanks Go Yard, joined me to touch on a variety of Yankees’ topics. During the segment, we talked about Robertson and how New York has let Robertson and Robinson Cano, two of their homegrown players, leave for free agency in the last two offseasons. We also discussed the Lester sweepstakes, the need for Chase Headley at third base, and the expectations for Alex Rodriguez when you consider that Joe Girardi said on Tuesday he has seen videos of A-Rod working out.

The first guest on the show was Jacob Misener, co-editor at Cubbies Crib and Call To The Pen. Jacob told us during this segment about whether or not Cubs’ fans feel optimistic that they will land Lester, Chicago’s trade for Arizona Diamondbacks’ catcher Miguel Montero, Plan B in case Lester doesn’t sign (James Shields?), and does their rumored pursuit of catcher David Ross depend solely on the Lester sweepstakes?

For this episode, we had a double dose of Chicago as I was joined by Joshua MacKenzie, a staff writer at Southside Showdown. This segment focused on the White Sox improving their bullpen with the David Robertson signing, the Jeff Samardzija trade, the previous signings of lefty Zach Duke and first baseman/designated hitter Adam Laroche, and where the White Sox stack up in the AL Central as of right now. Plus, what has stood out to Joshua about the moves that general manager Rick Hahn is making compared to what Ken Williams did as the GM?
