*Editor’s Note: Show was recorded LIVE on Thursday Night

On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, I started off the show by talking about the New York Yankees still looking for a hitting coach. Since our last episode, former Yankees’ hitting coach Kevin Long has taken the hitting coach job with the New York Mets, Chili Davis is now the hitting coach of the Boston Red Sox, and Dave Magadan is staying in Texas as the Rangers’ hitting coach. The Yankees also made a move in their front office this week with Gary Denbo becoming the new Yankees’ Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations, replacing Mark Newman and the club’s director of player development, Pat Roessler, will not be returning next year.

More from Yankees News

To start off the episode, we took a look at what to expect in the coming weeks from the New York Yankees in terms of how to fix the holes that are on the roster. To do this, I spoke with Mark Polishuk, a writer over at MLB Trade Rumors, who wrote the Yankees’ Offseason Outlook piece for the Trade Rumors site. Here are some of the topics that we talked about:

  • What are the biggest needs for the New York Yankees this winter?
  • David Robertson‘s future with the Yankees – Should they bring him back and at what cost?
  • Could New York afford to go four years for Robertson if the price gets to that point?
  • If not Robertson, how do the Yankees set up their bullpen? (Andrew Miller, Casey Janssen, Jason Grilli)
  • Could New York look to the trade market for a shortstop rather than free agency?
  • If the Yankees could keep only one player, do they keep Chase Headley or Brandon McCarthy?
  • Ranking the potential top three pitchers in free agency: Jon Lester, Max Scherzer, James Shields
  • Why the Yankees could look to improve the team more with trades instead of free agency.

As the episode continued, I had the chance to speak with Jacob Misener, the editor of Call To The Pen and Cubbies Crib. While did we discuss the possible bidding war that could take place between the Yankees and the Cubs for Jon Lester, most of our discussion centered around the World Series before Game 3 took place last night in San Francisco with the Kansas City Royals now leading that San Francisco Giants two games-to-one. Here are some of the topics that Jacob and I discussed:

  • Initial thoughts on the first two games of the World Series – Why Kansas City needs to win one of the next two games
  • Madison Bumgarner‘s dominance in the 2014 postseason
  • Has James Shields‘ free agent value dropped based on his Game 1 loss?
  • Is the Royals’ bullpen more of an advantage against the Giants than previously thought based on Game 2?
  • Yordano Ventura‘s performance in Game 2 – Has improved every outing since his bullpen appearance in the Wild Card Game
  • Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval without a home run in this postseason for San Francisco
  • Joe Panik‘s success in the #2 spot
  • Eric Hosmer and Alex Gordon keys for the Royals over the rest of this World Series
  • Need for Jeremy Guthrie and Jason Vargas to at least pitch six innings for Kansas City
  • Predictions!!!
