It has been a struggle for the Scottsdale Scorpions this season in Arizona Fall League action to win games consistently. Friday was no different, as a lack of offense was the culprit in their 2-1 loss to the visiting Surprise Saguaros. Stephen Landazuri got the start for the visitors and tossed three innings of one-run ball, and gave way to eventual winner Burch Smith, who threw two scoreless frames, allowing only one base knock.

Tyler Glasnow pitched well for Scottsdale, striking out six hitters, walking one and not allowing a run. Dario Alvarez and Ryan O’Sullivan each gave up a run, and that was all Surprise needed for victory. It was actually Scottsdale who jumped out to the early lead, because of, you guessed it, Greg Bird, the hot-hitting Yankees first base prospect, who drove in L.J. Mazilli with an RBI-single in the bottom of the first inning. That run was all Scottsdale would get in the contest.
Surprise scored their single runs in back-to-back innings, with RBI hits from D.J. Peterson and Pat Cantwell. For the Baby Bombers involved in the contest, Aaron Judge went 0-for-3, Bird finished 1-for-4 with the aforementioned RBI single, Tyler Austin went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks, and Dante Bichette, Jr., whose father has been mentioned as a candidate to become the Yankees next hitting coach, finished 2-for-4.
