Report: Gary Denbo Replaces Mark Newman, Pat Roessler Out
According to New York Daily News Yankees’ beat writer Mark Feinsand, there has been movement in the team’s front office today. Per Feinsand on Twitter, former Yankees’ hitting coach will replace the recently retired Mark Newman as Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations.
Shortly after Feinsand reported the news of Denbo’s promotion, he followed that up with news that the Yankees’ Director of Player Personnel, Pat Roessler has been dismissed. In a response to a question as to why Roessler was dismissed, Feinsand believed it had to do with Denbo’s having to formerly report to Roessler, and if Roessler was to remain in place, the roles would be reversed.
What do these moves mean exactly for the Yankees? After a second straight season of no postseason baseball, some things were going to change without a doubt. We saw that earlier with the dismissal of hitting coach Kevin Long and first base coach Mick Kelleher, who announced his retirement over this past weekend.

General Manager Brian Cashman was just given a new contract, so his job was safe, and Assistant General Manager Billy Eppler has been mentioned as a GM candidate for the Dodgers’ vacant role, and was a finalist for the Padres’ job that A.J. Preller got. Denbo has been an organization man for several years, but whether or not moving internal pieces around for the sake of appearance is going to make much of a difference, we’ll have to wait and see.
