Pitching Matchup

Michael Pineda (2-2, 2.05 ERA) will make his 3rd start since returning from the DL He gave up 2 runs over 6 innings in a no-decision 5-2 loss to the Astros on August 20. He’s 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA lifetime against the Royals. Pineda hasn’t been bad since overcoming his shoulder injury, but he has not looked like the pitcher he was before. He looks to get back to his normal ways and give the Yankees a chance to win.

James Shields (12-6, 3.28 ERA) will take the mound for the Royals tonight. He has won his last 3 starts, including a complete game shutout against the San Fransisco Giants. He has thrown 9 complete game shutouts since 2008.

Both teams have not had top of the line pitching this season, but they have found ways to get the job done through their offense and bullpen. Expect Shields and Pineda to both have strong outings.
