The Yankees travel to Kansas City for a one-game series Monday night after sweeping the White Sox over the weekend. The Yankees completed the sweep yesterday thanks to a walk-off three-run home run by Brian McCann in the 10th inning, giving the Yankees a 7-4 win. Yesterday’s victory marks the 4th win a row for a Yankee squad that is finally starting to hit the ball and looks to match their longest winning streak of the season.
The Royals (72-57) sit on top of the AL Central, with the Detroit Tigers just two games behind. They have been on fire going 24-7 since July 22nd and winning 7 of their last 10 games. The Yankees (67-61) are six games behind the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East and 3.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the second wild card spot.
Tonight’s matchup is a make-up of a series finale game that was postponed due to rain back on June 9. The Royals and Yankees will meet again in New York for a three-game series on September 5.
