Honorable Mention: Nathan Mikolas (.221, 2 HR, 15 RBI)

It was a rough first two months of the season for the Yankees’ third round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft, Nathan Mikolas. He had failed to hit above .206 in each month. But, August has seemed to be the turning point in Mikolas’ 2014 season.

In seven games this month, Mikolas has six hits with five RBI’s. However, the reason he makes this list is because of the great performance he had in Staten Island’s 11-6 loss on Sunday. In that game, the left fielder went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and four RBI’s., Throughout the entire road trip, he went 6-for-12 at the plate, which is a great sign that he is starting to get used to New-York Penn League pitching.

One of the good aspects about Mikolas’ game is his defense. In 39 games this season, he has only made one error. He is also tied for third on the team in on-base percentage (.362) due in part to his 21 walks, which is second on the team behind Christopher Breen. After spending two seasons in the Gulf Coast League, Mikolas has made some strides this season, but the 20-year-old will be looking to improve on his .193 home batting average during this next homestand.
