The New York Yankees are going for the series sweep against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night, but the game could be in danger as inclement weather rolls through the Bronx (and multiple areas of the northeast).

First pitch was scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET, but the official Yankees social media account revealed an hour before start time that the game was going to be delayed. According to the forecast, it could be a couple of hours.

Per Weather.com, thunderstorms are expected in the area until 8 p.m. ET. The percentage through 7 p.m. is 92% and then it drops to 55% through 8 p.m. If that's the case, the game probably shouldn't get postponed, even with the Twins playing on Thursday, but if it goes beyond that timeframe it could get dicey.

The Yankees are off tomorrow, but the Twins head back to Minnesota to host the Detroit Tigers for four games.

Cam Schlittler is the scheduled starter for Wednesday as the Yankees look to win their third game in a row. Their new-look lineup over the last two contests have provided some much-needed life (and it didn't hurt that they are facing a Twins team that was gutted at the trade deadline).

Giancarlo Stanton is scorching hot and is scheduled to play defense for the third night in a row. Might the weather conditions have manager Aaron Boone change his mind before the later start time? It's possible. This team cannot afford another single costly injury if they want to make the playoffs.

We'll be hawking the forecast over the next hour or so, but right now we're in a holding pattern and can probably kick back. The skies are dark, the thunder is rumbling, and the rain is starting to come down. Stay tuned for updates, but don't count on this game starting before 8 p.m.

Stay warm, Schlittler.
