UPDATE: The game has resumed after 30 minutes.

The series finale between the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium is in a rain delay in the top of the sixth inning. And it's especially inconvenient for the Yankees, who just got some offense going.

But more importantly, the Yankees have a flight out of Kansas City on Thursday night because they begin a three-game set against the Red Sox on Friday. Boston, meanwhile, is enjoying a night off. Because of course.

On a night where all of Aaron Judge, DJ LeMahieu and Austin Wells were out of the lineup, New York was holding its own with Will Warren on the mound. The right-hander has allowed just three hits and a walk over five scoreless innings, which was badly needed after Wednesday night got a bit uncomfortable with the bullpen. Starting the finale strong was going to be important for them to carry their momentum.

In the top of the sixth the Yankees chased Seth Lugo from the game by putting two runners on base with Cody Bellinger to the plate. But with two outs and reliever Angel Zerpa coming into the game, the tarp was rolled out onto the field.

It's unclear how long the delay will last, but there have been no concrete updates. The YES broadcast said it's probable Warren will get pulled from the game if it's in excess of 30 minutes. He's at just 69 pitches.

Though the Yankees already won the series, it'd be special if they pulled off the sweep with a punt lineup and one of their back-end starters on the mound. That would be a statement as they look to avenge last weekend's series loss to the division-rival Sox.

The lineup has only put five runners on base, but did its job by getting Lugo out of the game. When play resumes, it'll be Zerpa vs Bellinger in a 0-0 tie. And the tarp is coming off the field. It might not be long. Stay tuned.
