UPDATE: The thunderstorm in the forecast has passed and first pitch is now scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Not bad, all things considered. Hope you grabbed a pack of baseball cards to kill some time if you were at the stadium.
The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are set to kick off their first meeting of the 2025 season in the Bronx, but the series opener has been delayed due to inclement weather. Fans at Yankee Stadium will have to wait a little longer for Friday night's contest to begin.
The grounds crew rolled the tarp out on the field around 5:45 p.m. ET as heavy rain fell, pushing the 7:05 p.m. ET start time.
The scheduled matchup between Walker Buehler (4.44 ERA, 1.31 WHIP) and Will Warren (5.19 ERA, 1.42 WHIP) is currently delayed. Buehler makes his return to New York since closing out the LA Dodgers' World Series victory in October. Yet another reminder of that hellacious Game 5 for Yankees fans.
Pretty appropriate, though, as dark skies envelop the Bronx at the moment. There's not specific time for first pitch. We are officially in a holding pattern. Thoughts and prayers to the folks in attendance. We've all been there before.
Please be advised we do not intend to start tonight’s game on time.

Yankees vs. Red Sox Rain Delay, June 6: Weather Updates, Start Time, Details
And to be honest, it looks pretty darn bad! Almost as bad as former Yankee Carlos Narvaez batting cleanup for the Red Sox tonight! A fan posted a video of the conditions and we can't say we're optimistic about what's to come. Even if the weather clears up, it could take time for the grounds crew to get the field in playing order.
The current scene from Yankee Stadium. Golf ball sized hail POURING down. Don’t think this games getting started on-time. #NYY pic.twitter.com/L2NnkeKxcv
