Yankees vs. Orioles Rain Delay: Start time updates after season ends with final weather blow

You're not going to believe this, but Sunday's Game 162 finale between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles will not start on time as a Nor'Easter still rages through the region.

The Yankees announced the delayed start time at 12:32 PM EST ahead of a 1:05 PM EST first pitch. But we didn't really need them to announce the delay, because we have eyes.

As Aaron Boone told reporters with an eyeroll pregame, “The window is in play. Not sure what window that is.”

There are still a few games with massive playoff ramifications scheduled for Sunday, one of which is very much in the center of the storm in Philadelphia. That game, between the Phillies and Rays, was moved from 3:00 PM EST to 2:30 PM EST. If the Phillies win, they're in. If not, the Diamondbacks have a chance to win and steal their spot in San Diego. The Rangers' and Astros' playoff fates are still up for grabs as well.

That is not true for the Yankees and Orioles. Baltimore's season is over, even if Pete Alonso would prefer that it go on forever. The Yankees are locked into hosting a Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox; the series' first two games are scheduled for 8:00 PM EST on Tuesday and Wednesday. Whether or not the Yankees are able to win in the rain on Sunday the way Alexander Cornielle did in his MLB debut on Friday means nothing. The Yankees even held off on announcing a lineup prior to the game's official delay, which definitely feels like a silent protest.

If this game happens, Elmer Rodriguez will be starting, Adam Kloffenstein may be summoned to eat some innings, and the Yankees' outfielders and infielders will be instructed to take no chances and stay dry. It should be a very dull affair. It also should not be played. Sorry, Orioles fans, but I know you agree. Health and safety are paramount, whether your season continues beyond Sunday or not.
