Both bad. Make them go away.

The New York Yankees might leave the 2025 Winter Meetings without making a single move, outside of being active in the Rule 5 Draft for the first time since ... 2011. FOURTEEN YEARS! Maybe the move works out, you never know!

In the grand scheme of things, though, the Yankees are in bad shape for 2026. They've lost a number of talented players and have only brought back three others. This team is not ready to compete in 2026.

And it's not getting any better. We've heard next to nothing about the Yankees' involvement with star players either via free agency or trade in regard to progressing talks. Brian Cashman even came out and said himself nothing was looking particularly good.

Shortly after that, reports surfaced the Yankees were reportedly interested in ... trading for Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle. Doesn't this team already have a surplus of outfielders, which is why the Cody Bellinger connection has softened over the last week or so?

To nobody's surprise, the Yankees are trying to get their hands on a player whose value is down after a poor season. But didn't they already learn from trading with the Rockies when they acquired reliever Jake Bird for a top-10 prospect?

Yankees Rumors: Blue Jays looking at Luke Weaver to join bullpen

That's not even the worst from Wednesday's rumor mill, either. According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, the division-rival Blue Jays are interested in Luke Weaver, who Cashman essentially confirmed was departing in free agency a few days ago.

Weaver quickly became a fan favorite in New York after arriving in 2023, but his poor 2025 showing, for whatever reason, has fully convinced the Yankees they need to move on. In reality, this should be right up their alley! Familiarity, inexpensive, good swing and miss.

Instead, they're going to let him find his 2024 footing elsewhere ... potentially in the division ... with the defending AL champs.

Weaver's market is likely wider than just Toronto's interest, but the fact the Yankees have no even made a single bullpen overture despite that being their worst unit last year has everybody even more pessismistic about their showing over the past couple weeks.

If not Weaver, then who? Edwin Diaz, Devin Williams, Ryan Helsley, Emilio Paga, Raisel Iglesias, Kyle Finnegan, Steven Matz and Gregory Soto are already off the board. It's largely been a boring Winter Meetings, and the Yankees have made it worse.
