A chaotic final 72 hours of the Yankees' regular season will begin with a last-minute doubleheader on Friday, combining two weekend affairs against the Baltimore Orioles into one evening. Requiring some pitching help for the doubled-up games, the Yankees demoted both Bradley Hanner and Luis Gil after Thursday's exciting win.

Could this mean Carlos Lagrange's MLB debut, after Matt Blake hinted that he wasn't elevated on Friday because of the timing of his live BP? Everyone believed ... right up until their hopes were dashed four hours before gametime.

Instead, the Yankees will elevate Brendan Beck and Yerry de los Santos, and Lagrange, always a playoff longshot, now feels like an impossibility.

The Yankees enter Friday needing to turn the emotional tide after a weather shuffle that's left some fans feeling short-changed. After all, CC Sabathia's big day and Monument Park ceremony were set for Saturday before the rains necessitated a change of plans, and not everyone is happy with the last-minute alteration. Sabathia even reacted to the broken hearts on his own social media account.

Holding Sabathia's Monument Park ceremony on the final weekend of the season - as well as a Josh Hart bobblehead giveway that's sure to cause riots and also got partially scuttled - was a choice meant to import massive crowds for an AL East showdown the Yankees surely hoped would matter. It won't, and for a totally fine reason - the Yankees fell short of the division crown, but left the rest of the league in their wake, and are totally locked in.

Fans holding the Yankees accountable for changes in the weather are being unreasonable. It's also difficult to expect them to tell Sabathia, at the very last minute, to go home and prepare himself again for a do-over next season. But ... that doesn't mean this doesn't suck. It sucks for fans with Saturday tickets who are unable to use them on Friday - the Yankees probably should've at least figured out a way to make this a double-admission doubleheader and do the Sabathia game and bobblehead together for the late game. And it also sucks for Sabathia, who was due a full house in primetime and will instead get a Nor'Easter-beating daytime crowd at 3:15 PM EST.

At least the fans who got the short end of the stick have received an electric gift of ... Brendan Beck to perk up this final meaningless series. Oh, well.
