It was a weekend of history for the New York Yankees, who swept the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game set. After the narrow Opening Day win on Thursday, the Yankees completely obliterated the 2024 NL Central champs.
They outscored the Brew Crew 36-14 over those three games and there were far too many home runs to remember (thanks, torpedo bats!). Here are some records the Bombers set (or matched) after starting 3-0 in 2025:
- Most runs scored (36) in first three games of a season in franchise history
- Most home runs hit (nine) in a single game in franchise history
- Most home runs (11) in the first two games of a season in MLB history
- Most home runs (seven) in a three-inning span in MLB history
- Most home runs (four) in the first inning in franchise history
- First team to hit three home runs on the first three pitches of a game in MLB history
- Tied MLB record with 15 home runs in the first three games of a season
- Tied franchise record with 13 home runs in a two-game span
- Austin Wells became the first catcher in MLB history to hit a leadoff homer on Opening Day
- Aaron Judge became the first player in Yankees history with four HRs in the team's first three games of the season
- Most beers dumped on heads (234) in the bleacher section of a ballpark in MLB history*
*just kidding but wouldn't doubt it
The Yankees are off on Monday and will open a three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Bronx from Tuesday-Thursday. The pitching matchups will be:
- Will Warren vs. Corbin Burnes
- Carlos Rodón vs. Zac Gallen
- Carlos Carrasco vs. Merrill Kelly
Speaking of the Diamondbacks, they just split a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs thanks to a massive late comeback on Sunday. Not great for the Cubbies, who started 0-2 in Japan, missed a prime chance to rebound with a four-game series win, and ended up parting with former Yankees pitcher Cody Poteet for pretty much nothing in a trade.
Cody Poteet, who was acquired by the Cubs from the Yankees in the Cody Bellinger salary dump, has now been traded to the Baltimore Orioles strictly for cash considerations.

Yankees News: Cody Poteet lands with division rival, Dodgers troll NYY with WS ring
On Thursday, the Cubs designated Poteet for assignment and then traded him to the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. They received cash in the deal and Poteet will return to the AL East after just a couple months away.
Cubs fans were infuriated by the move because it confirmed the organization's motives all along: they were simply trying to get every last dollar of Cody Bellinger's contract off the books in their trade with the Yanks (a one-for-one swap with $5 million being sent to New York). As we remind you often, it could always be worse, Yankees fans.
Then again, the Bombers couldn't escape the weekend unscathed. On Friday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers held the ring ceremony to celebrate their 2024 World Series victory over New York, and they made sure to take one final parting shot at their AL counterpart.

On the back of the ring, there are five diamonds to commemorate LA's five-run comeback in the fifth inning of Game 5 at Yankee Stadium. After the Yankees melted down defensively that inning, the Dodgers erased a 5-0 deficit to eventually capture the 7-6 victory, which clinched the series. They didn't get to celebrate on their home turf, but it was an historic game their fans will remember fondly forever (while Yankees fans wince in pain at the mere mention of it).
Anyway, what's done is done. And the fact of the matter is that the Yankees started off their revenge tour in the best manner possible. The haters are back and they're digging deeper into the depths of stupidity to try and deny reality. As for the Dodgers, they're still rightfully enjoying their moment, but they shouldn't forget such actions rarely go without karmic retribution.
