Giancarlo Stanton's recovery from injury has been genuinely confusing, but it was nothing that surprised Yankees fans. This is typically what happens; information is guarded, there's a lack of clarity because nobody wants to jump the gun, and, of course, the nature of the injury is mysterious.

Stanton is suffering from tendinitis in both elbows, which ... he could play through? Or he could require season-ending surgery for? Turns out, we just had to wait and see how he progressed through his rehab to find out.

Though there's still no definitive answer regarding his return, which is what Aaron Boone alluded to this weekend, Brian Cashman appeared on MLB Network Radio to clear things up a bit. Stanton could be going on a rehab assignment "soon", which is better than Boone's explanation of "no timeline" about a week ago.

Based on Cashman's response, Yankees fans could see Stanton back in the lineup within the next few weeks if all goes well. The Yankees are definitely being cautious, but they've been afforded that luxury with their promising start to the season.

Yankees News: Ryan Yarbrough dominates Angels, NYY trade buzz surfacing

Speaking of which, they secured another win on Memorial Day after taking down the Angels 5-1 in Anaheim. Ryan Yarbrough, after surrendering a first-inning home run to Zach Neto, completely took over after that. He retired 12 of the next 13 batters and finished with just 88 pitches through six innings. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out seven.

It's quite possible he could go down as one of the best offseason signings of 2025; and it didn't happen until the end of March! The left-hander now has a 3.06 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 12 games (four starts) and has really made an impact after Carlos Carrasco was DFA'd.

The Yankees only recorded six hits and three walks on Monday, but Anthony Volpe's three-run double in the fourth was the saving grace as another 5.00 ERA pitcher in Jack Kochanowicz seemed like he was having far too easy of a time handling New York's lineup. Thankfully, the pressure applied in the fourth saved New York.

Don't get us wrong, this team is good, but it still needs help. And that's where MLB insider Bob Nightengale comes in with his column this week. He reported on the Yankees' plans ahead of the trade deadline:

"The Yankees are aggressively searching for a right-handed bat, preferably a third baseman, while also looking for another starter."

Oswald Peraza has been good defensively at the hot corner for the most part, but his bat is putrid. The rotation has been great, but they're one injury away from having to significantly shuffle the deck. Marcus Stroman likely isn't factoring into the team's plans, and Luis Gil's return won't be for a little while. At that point, Yarbrough will likely shift back to the bullpen in a long relief/spot start role.

No need to analyze too deeply right now. The Yankees still have two months before the deadline as they currently sit at 33-20 (six games ahead of the second-place Tampa Bay Rays). For now, they're winning in various ways and keeping the roster problems at bay.
